Diesels and short trips
Most island journeys are short. Ask how the particulate filter (DPF) has been looked after, and think about whether your trips suit a diesel.

It's free on GOV.UK with the registration. Look for advisories that come back year after year and gaps in the mileage.

Buying a motorhome on the Isle of Wight
Most motorhomes for sale on the island are coachbuilts from Swift, Auto-Sleeper, Elddis and Bailey, sold by motorhome dealers in Newport and by car dealers who take one in part exchange. Buying one here means you can see it, and its damp readings, before you pay anything.
Check the plated weight before you buy. If you passed your test after 1996, your licence covers up to 3,500kg, and some larger motorhomes are over that. A motorhome is also in the dearer bands on every ferry: Wightlink charges motorhome fares over 5m long, and Red Funnel's car fare stops at 5.5m long and 2.0m high. Our guide to buying a campervan or motorhome on the Isle of Wight has the ferry sizes, habitation checks and licence rules.
