Read the MOT history
It's free on GOV.UK with the registration. Look for advisories that come back year after year and gaps in the mileage.

Buying a used motorbike on the Isle of Wight
Most used bikes on the island are sold by the franchised bike dealers: Triumph and Yamaha in Newport, Honda in Ventnor and Royal Enfield in Bembridge. Their used stock is often a part exchange or an ex-demonstrator, and each one is listed here with its mileage and price, so you can view it without a ferry trip.
Check your licence covers the bike. A CBT lets you ride a 125cc with L plates from 17, an A1 licence covers 125s without L plates, an A2 licence covers bikes up to 35kW from 19, and a full A licence covers any bike. Any 125 listed here can be ridden on a CBT with L plates, and the dealers can tell you which licence a bigger bike needs.
